This page is dedicated to one of my favorite actors, Robert DeNiro, one of the greatest actors of all time. DeNiro has appeared in more than 50 films, produced over 10 film & tv projects and he has directed one film, A Bronx Tale, which is one of my all time favorites. My favorite Robert DeNiro films are of course A Bronx Tale, The Deer Hunter, Heat, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, Once Upon a Time in America, Awakenings, GoodFellas, Analyze This and This Boy's Life. Out of all the DeNiro films I've seen, I can only consider one of his films a complete clunker in my opinion. That film is We're No Angels, which was released in 1989 and costarred Sean Penn.
BRIEF BIO
Robert DeNiro, Jr. was born in New York City on August 17, 1943. His parents, Robert DeNiro, Sr. and Virginia Admiral were both painters. His first acting experience was at age 10 in the Wizard of Oz at a Dramatic Workshop he belonged to. He gained more acting experience from the Conservatory of Acting in Greenwich Village and the Actor's Studio. His first appearance in a film was in the 1965 film Trois Chambres a Manhattan. He had a brief walk on part in that film. But DeNiro made his first film in 1963. That movie, The Wedding Party, which was directed by Brian DePalma, wasn't officially released until 1969.
DeNiro has been nominated for 6 Academy Awards and has won 2. In 1974 he won for Best Supporting Actor in The Godfather Part II and in 1980 he won for Best Actor in Raging Bull.
In 1989 DeNiro along with co-investors acquired a building in his TriBeCa neighborhood which would eventually become the TriBeCa Film Center. He also opened a new restaurant Tribeca Grill.
As for his personal life DeNiro has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress & singer Diahnne Abbott whom he had been dating since his struggling actor days. They wed in April 1976. Diahnne had a daughter, Drena DeNiro, from a previous marriage whom DeNiro eventually adopted. Together they had a son, Raphael who was born in 1977. Even though DeNiro and Diahnne separated in 1979 they didn't divorce until 1988. In 1997 DeNiro married former flight attendant Grace Hightower. They have one son, Elliot. DeNiro also has twin sons, Julian and Aaron by his long time former girlfriend Toukie Smith, sister of the late clothing designer Willie Smith.
