Welcome to my Local Flavor page. I have lived in Maryland since 1968. We lived in Silver Spring, Maryland for 4 years and then moved to Beltsville, Maryland. Maryland is a pretty nice state to live in except for the high taxes, lol. Sometimes I call it Taxland. Living in the Washington, D.C. metro area also means dealing with the high cost of living. But you learn to adjust. The benefits include living near the Nation’s Capital, where there are plenty of tourist attractions and living not far from the Chesapeake Bay in the Annapolis, Maryland area. It’s kind of neat to go from Maryland to D.C. to Virginia in a certain amount of time. And don't forget the Harbor in Baltimore.
The traffic in the area is a bear to deal with. I can’t stand driving on the Beltway but most times it’s the only road to get you to your destination quickly. The Metro, our subway system, is cool though. But it’s not cheap like everything else around here. I take the subway to work everyday.
One of the wonderful things about living here is that most times you experience all four seasons: spring, summer, winter and fall. I say sometimes since some years we seem to go from winter straight to summer or summer straight to winter. We seem to skip right over my favorite seasons spring and fall. Oh well. But when we do have fall it’s beautiful. Cool, crisp and comfortable unlike the unbearable hot and humid days of summer.
I also appreciate the diversity of newcasters we have on the various news channels in the area. It definitely represents the diversity of the entire metro area.
Below are links to various sites representing the Washington, D.C. metro area. They include tour guide information, local radio & tv stations, newspapers, local governments, etc. If you're ever interested in visiting the DC/MD/VA area these links will be very helpful for you. Enjoy!!!!
