Benjamin Geza Affleck was born on August 15, 1972 in Oakland, California and his family briefly lived in Berkeley, California before moving to Massachusetts when he was 2 years old. He also has a younger brother, actor Casey Affleck. His family eventually moved to Cambridge, MA when Ben was 5 years old. His father held a variety of jobs and his mom is a school teacher.

Ben got his acting start on the PBS series "Voyage of the Mimi." It was around this time that his parents also divorced. Ben attended Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School along with his best friend actor Matt Damon. After graduating from high school Ben attended the University of Vermont but dropped out after the first semester. After moving to Los Angeles he also attended Occidental College but dropped out of that school as well. College may not have agreed with him but he did find work in tv and feature films. He appeared in the tv movie "Daddy" and made his feature film debut in uncredited role in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." His first credited film was "School Ties." It was the Kevin Smith film "Chasing Amy" that brought Ben to everyone's attention.

While trying to land quality roles in feature films Ben and Matt were working on the script for "Good Will Hunting." Thanks to his good friend Kevin Smith, the script was bought by Miramax and as they say the rest is history. Good Will Hunting became a critical and box office success. The movie was nominated for 9 Academy Awards including a Best Supporting Actor Oscar win for Robin Williams and Best Screenplay Oscar win for Ben and Matt.

Ben has gone on to star in such films as "Armageddon," "Shakespeare in Love," "Dogma," "Pearl Harbor," "Changing Lanes," "Sum of All Fears" and "Daredevil."

Ben currently lives in Los Angeles and he also has a home in New York City.
