So you wanna know about me? Well I was born in Atlanta, GA but moved to Maryland with my family when I was 8 years old. So I guess I'm a Marylander at heart. I'm single and I don't have any children. I have an Associate of Arts degree in Accounting from Prince George's Community College and a Bachelor Of Science degree in Business Administration from the University Of Maryland, University College. I've spent most of my working years with Uncle Sam (the federal government) in the Accounting field. Right now I'm a Financial Management Analyst specializing in Web Development. I taught myself html at home when I had my Webtv and that knowledge has turned into a new career for me.
Now of course my real name isn't Laylaskye. One of my favorite songs is Layla by Derek & The Dominoes. So I decided to use Layla and I added skye to it to make it unique. I use to go by another name when I was using Webtv but I changed it to Laylaskye after I bought my pc.
I first discovered the internet during the mid 1990's at work. In 1998 I bought a Webtv (now MSN TV) as a Christmas gift to myself. While surfing the net I discovered many wonderful personal homepages and decided it was time to create my own personal homepage. I started out using WebTv's PageBuilder. This site was created in 1999 with Geocities. In the fall of 2000 I decided it was time to buy a PC and it's made web designing and web surfing much easier. I've since moved from Geocities to another web host. I love surfing the net. So many interesting things to discover and I enjoy reading about people from all over the world.
As you can tell by my website I'm an entertainment junkie. I love movies and music. I like most types of movies especially comedies (they better be funny), some horror films, drama and musicals (they have to be really good musicals). My favorite actors include Denzel Washington, Robert DeNiro, Sam Rockwell, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Gere and Morgan Freeman. My favorite actresses include Angela Bassett, Meryl Streep, Katherine Hepburn, Halle Berry, Bette Davis, Whoopi Goldberg and Kerry Washington.
Last year (2002) I created a new website called Mahogany Cafe. I created this site because I could hardly find any information on black actresses. And most female related sites only had info on one or two black actresses like Halle Berry and maybe Angela Bassett. I know they're not the only black actresses in Hollywood. To me this showed how unappreciated black actresses are. So instead of griping about this situation I decided to create Mahogany Cafe. It’s been interesting finding out so much information on well known and lesser known black actresses who have struggled in Hollywood.
I love music. Especially r&b (mostly from the 60's, 70's, 80's and early 90's), pop, classic rock and smooth jazz. I've never been into country music and rap music turns me off. I use to like rap when it first came out in the early 80's but it's changed for the worst. Music seems to have gone downhill since the mid 1990's. Anyway my music tastes range from Luther Vandross, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Ohio Players, Michael Jackson, Level 42, The Temptations, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Kenny G, Anita Baker, Marvin Gaye, India.Arie, George Michael and Tears For Fears to Vanessa L. Williams, Barry White, U2, Parliament Funkadelic, Phil Collins, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Jackson 5/The Jacksons, Teena Marie, Donna Summer, The Isley Brothers, The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, The Commodores, Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, Tina Turner, Swing Out Sister and Sade.
I'm a big QVC fan. I started shopping with them in late 1996. It's a wonderful place to shop and they have some great items. Especially Northern Nights (bed sheets, featherbeds, comforters, etc.), Cooks Essentials, their Denim & Co clothing line and of course their sterling silver and white gold jewelry. I've been hooked on sterling silver and white gold since I started shopping with them. I have to admit I don't go to the mall as much as I use to since I started shopping with QVC.
I'm a big Washington Redskins fan (I miss Darrell Green). I also like the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens. I can't stand the Dallas Cowboys, lol. I also enjoy watching college basketball especially the Maryland Terrapins (FEAR THE TURTLE!!!!!), tennis, the Olympics (summer & winter) and I started watching golf when Tiger Woods came along. I'm slowly losing interest in pro basketball. It was much more exciting to watch when Magic, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan (during his Chicago Bulls days) and Isaiah Thomas were playing. Let's just say like today's music pro basketball is also going downhill in my opinion.
Well enough about me ;-) Check out the rest of my website and enjoy!!!
